September Activities Summary 2014

Hello…I hope you have been enjoying the lovely September weather.
Our lovely ladies and gentlemen have been either wandering or being escorted around the gardens and enjoying refreshments outside whilst reading or chatting.

Firstly a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Zoe and her Staff for receiving an accreditation for The Gold Standards Framework for the High Quality of Care provided in the final years of life. Zoe, Robin, Alison and Alan went up to London to be presented with the beautiful plaque which you will all see displayed at the entrance to Valerie Manor…..many hours were spent putting together the information required to be submitted. John and I would like to say as parents how very proud we are of our Zoe and the staff who work so hard and support her…did you know some of them call us Muma and Papa Bates…Love it !

The usual Activities have continued during the month…Gemma still preparing and giving some wonderful talks on various subjects…Reflexology, Flower Arranging, Tai Chi, Quizzes and Word Games to name but a few.

We had a chat about occupations before retiring…a Banker and Insurance Industry gentlemen based in London, a School Bursar for 10 years at a school in Harrow. One lady taught Nursery Nurses aged 16/17. She surprised us all by telling us she had taken a year off teaching to work in Selfridges in London in the Table Stationary Department and in a Coffee Shop in Conduit Street again in London. Another lady was in the WRNS for 4 years and married a Royal Marine who was serving in Malta. Another resident worked in the Worthing Tax Office. Running his own Gardening Business another gentleman’s wife looked after the office side of things. A PE and Biology Teacher are also in our midst.

Lots of different music has been enjoyed after our Monday Exercise Sessions….Classical, Val Doonican, Cilla Black, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby not to forget the very popular Musicals Compilations.

Do look out for the information regarding the Fund Raiser for St. Barnabas Hospice….’Wear a Hat’….going to have a rummage through my Let’s Dance boxes….Friday 10th October….go along and join in the fun !

Bye for now
