May Activities Summary 2015

Hello again….a beautiful sunny day yesterday but today it has been raining non-stop !
Good old England !

Busy as ever at The Manor…lots on offer for those who like to join in…Cinco de Mayo…Mexican Festival with decorations and Mexican Music…..we celebrated VE DAY again with nostalgic decorations and music. Tai Chi, Reflexology, Exercise from your chair. A 100th Birthday was celebrated ! Still one of the most popular activities is Flower Arranging…Joyce has been leading this for years much to everyone’s delight !

We held a Reminiscence Session where we talked about pets that had been owned in the past….once again when asking each individual sometimes they say they cannot remember but at the end having thought about it they come up with a name or breed of pet that they once owned ! If you are a relative reading this you might recognise the pets and names discussed as belonging to your family member…..a dog called Mandy, one resident having owned 2 Jack Russells one called William who was a really naughty dog ! a black Cocker Spaniel (I love this breed !) called Lorna and a Fox Terrier called Bob. Another resident owned Westies and a Golden Retriever called Bruce and a Labrador called Ben were fondly remembered as well. Cats were not mentioned so much except for one called Poppy oh and Goldfish as well.

The whole Bates family were involved in our ‘Let’s Dance Through the Years’ Show which raised £2,100 for our chosen Children’s Charity…WHIZZ KIDZ…providing bespoke wheelchairs for children….must not forget Sally-Ann’s husband Mike aka ‘Jack the Lad’ from Heart making a surprise appearance at the end when the Cheque was presented as we did not have a Representative from the Charity attending….guess what….Alan was our Master of Ceremonies and did a grand job as you can imagine. We will be having a showing of the DVD to the residents and hopefully perform some of the numbers from the show at the Valerie Manor Cream Tea afternoon on Saturday 8th August…not forgetting the very popular Maypole of course !

See you next time
