West Sussex Care Accolades

We were absolutely delighted to attend the West Sussex Care Accolades award ceremony yesterday with three of our residents. The event was held at the Wetlands Centre in Arundel where we had a lovely buffet lunch followed by the presentations.

I am proud to say that Valerie Manor were runners up in 3 out of 10 of the categories which we were delighted with – see below for a summary of the runners up (I was thrilled to hear that I had been nominated as well!)

Nilly – Ancillary Worker Award

If you asked any member of staff, a resident or a visitor what they thought about Nilly they would say ‘Sunshine’. Nilly really does bring a ray of sunshine to everyone at Valerie Manor with her huge smile whatever the time day or night and her kind heart. Nilly would do anything for anyone and without exception always have a smile on her face which brightens everyone’s day.

Here is what someone asked me to include about Nilly ‘Nilly always goes far above and beyond in her role. She supports all of the care team in any duties she can – without being asked. Nilly always has a kind word for all of our residents and care team and is considered by all of us as family and I know this feeling is reciprocated’

Collette – End of Life Care Award

Here at Valerie Manor all staff pride themselves in how we care for our residents and their families at the end of their life but all staff would agree that Collette excels in end of life care and is always there for the residents and their families – often being known to be here around the clock to ensure not only the physical needs are met but emotional needs of the resident, their families and also other staff.

Collette not only has the support of the staff here but her family as they will step in to care for her children to allow Collette the time to be here with the residents and their families during the final stages of their life. Often just having the comfort for the resident of just knowing that Collette is sitting there beside them.

Zoe – Registered Manager Award

Zoe is the Registered Manager of Valerie Manor Care Home which she has owned and run for nearly eight years. She took it on as a small 12 bedded rest home and has built it up and project managed the building of a new nursing wing with a total of 23 beds. Having had late grandparents reside in unsatisfactory establishments her vision has always been to make a difference and provide an outstanding service. This has been acknowledged this year following a recent CQC inspection where the home has been awarded an overall rating of “Outstanding.” Zoe is dedicated and strives for perfection. She is an excellent role model and has put in long hours to ensure that things are done properly and nothing is overlooked. Residents, relatives and visitors frequently remark on it how it feels like a “home from home.”

Under Zoë’s Management the Care Team are currently ‘National Care Team of the Year”
