Valerie Manor Garden Party
It was lovely to see so many friends and family join the residents and staff last Friday for our Garden Party.
Despite a few staffing issues in the run up to the event, the event was a great success!
We were asked to take part in a project to promote hydration as well as the benefits this would bring to our residents. It was at the beginning of this project that Chloe volunteered to visit twice a week to give her experience in a Care setting. Chloe is hoping to follow in her Father’s footsteps and study medicine. Zoe and Chloe’s father, Dr Sanjeev Patel worked together for some time at Epsom & St Helier Hospital and it was he that suggested to Chloe that she should volunteer here.
We asked Chloe to think about introducing Mocktails (Non-alcoholic cocktails) to encourage our residents to keep hydrated and to offer a wider variety to our usual beverages. It wasn’t long before Chloe had come up with an idea for a Garden Party
and created a folder with all her ideas and thoughts in.
As you may recall we had planned to have a BBQ earlier in the summer for the Queen’s Birthday celebration – which due to the weather we had to cater for inside. We saw this as the challenge to combine the events as the residents were very keen to have a BBQ before the summer ended!
The whole afternoon was a triumph, everyone enjoyed spending time outside and sampling the Mocktails (Apple Zing, Virgin Sunrise, Cool Elderflower, Raspberry Cordial and also Pimms.) and despite having to engage outside caterers at short notice the food was delicious. Spirits were not dampened by the heavy rain which followed almost immediately the food service had finished, but in true British spirit we took to the cover and carried on!!!!
We even had bunting that was made by our residents and of course coordinated by Catherine, one of our registered nurses.

along and also to our wonderful staff that always make these events so special for our residents.
