Funding and key information

Please find below some information regarding care funding options which we hope you find useful.

Contracts

You will be issued with a contract prior to an admission which details the terms and conditions of a placement here at Valerie Manor and the cost of the service. If you would like to see a template contract please contact the home directly and we would be happy to provide you with an electronic copy. We also have detailed information available in our Service User Guide.

To secure a room we would ask for a deposit which equals two weeks room rate and this would be deducted from the first invoice.

Residential Fees (Room dependent)

£750 – £1400 per week.

Nursing Fees

See above plus the funded nursing care contribution (FNC).

Respite Fees

We have a minimum stay of two weeks for respite care.

Various benefits and other forms of financial assistance may be available to assist you with your fees.

 NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC)

NHS continuing healthcare (NHS CHC) is a package of health and social care funded solely by the NHS when your need for care is primarily due to your need for healthcare.  You need very complex and intense healthcare needs to be eligible. The funding when granted also does not normally cover all of the cost of the room This is also reviewed on a 3 monthly basis and is not something that is guaranteed as ongoing. We will apply for this funding if we believe someone is eligible.

NHS Funded Nursing Care Contribution (FNC)

NHS funded nursing care is funding paid by the local CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) directly to a nursing home for care provided to residents by registered nurses employed by the home.

If someone develops nursing needs at Valerie Manor the cost of the room increases to allow for more expert care, resources and equipment. We will apply for this funding if we believe someone is eligible. On admission, if it is felt that a resident has nursing needs we will apply two weeks into the trial period and as long as the application is received within the first month of admission the FNC will be backdated to the admission date.

Running out of Money

 If your money falls below the local authority funding limit and you meet the care and funding assessment from West Sussex County Council, the council will provide funding so that you can continue to remain in care.

Will I be able to stay at Valerie Manor?

The amount that West Sussex County Council pays for care is significantly lower than our care fees.  The only way we could accept residents at the local authority rate whilst maintaining our current care standards would be to ask our other residents to pay more.  We feel that this would be unfair.

The options open to you in this situation are as follows:

  1. You can remain at Valerie Manor and ask someone else to pay the difference.  This is called a ’third party top-up’.  You cannot use your own money to ’top up’ the local authority contribution but a third party, such as a family member, can contribute towards your care.  The third party will need to accept the open-ended nature of the financial commitment and may be required to meet the full cost of fee increases if local authority rates are frozen.
  2. You could move to a care home that accepts local authority funding.  If a top up payment is not possible Social Services will arrange a care home for you that will accept their funding in full payment.

Sadly no-one wins if money is allowed to run out and we recommend that you seek professional advice on your finances when considering care.  We are happy to refer you to a suitable company.

Funding from FNC, CHC or Social Services (SS)

If someone is eligible for FNC, CHC or SS funding then we will continue to invoice you at the agreed rate until the funding is processed. Unfortunately, this has been known to take up to 6 months before and I hope you appreciate for a small company like ours it is not feasible to not receive income for this whole period. As soon as the funding is received from the relevant department then it is of course immediately refunded to the residents via the preferred route and then once in the system we deal directly with the relevant department and the resident / family if there is a top up required.

During this time, we endeavour to assist the resident and / or their families to expedite the process with the relevant departments as we are aware it can be an anxious time for you and we are more familiar with the system so able to hopefully assist you more.
