Brighton Marathon for St Barnabas House

Frequent visitors to Valerie Manor will know that Linda and I are running the Brighton Marathon again this year. Our training started in January and has been going well so far! We have both recently completed a 20 mile run and will continue to train around this distance for the next couple of weeks before ‘tapering’ down before the marathon.

One of the ‘joys’ of training is that you need to ensure you ‘load’ with carbs around this time and as pasta is in my top 3 favorite foods, this part really isn’t a problem!

We are again raising vital funds for our friends and colleagues at St Barnabas House in Worthing, and would ask you to consider making a donation for our efforts on the day.

We will be placing sponsorship forms at the main entrance shortly, but if you’d prefer to make a donation via our Just Giving webpage please following the below link.

Thank you as always for your continued support.

Goodbye Rain?!!?

Well I’m sure everyone thought that it would never stop raining, but eventually a big round yellow thing appeared in the sky. Residents reminded me that it was called the sun and whilst there was a bit of a breeze, we headed outside for a nice bit of fresh air. The sun was so bright that I had to lend a resident my sunglasses!

Let’s hope the good weather continues for a while longer!

On Yer Bike for St Barnabas House

What a fantastic day we all had on Friday 28th February! Care assistant Gemma (above right) did a great job of organising the whole event for us after coming up with the idea with fellow carer James.

Our intrepid cyclists started at 09:00 and continued throughout the morning, taking in turns to ensure the pedals never cooled down!! We took a break for lunch then re-commenced at 14:00

The local press attended during the morning so be warned!! – you may be greeted by several familiar faces when you open your papers this week!

The staff, residents and visitors all thoroughly enjoyed the day as well as raising over £400 for St Barnabas which we were very proud of.

You will see from the photos that staff and volunteers did wonders with their fancy dress costumes! I would also like to thank some of our local business’s for supporting us and donating raffle prizes; Debbie from Whispers in Steyning, Swaines Farm shop, Jayesh & Daniel from Nisa Local in Upper Beeding, Jack from Swandean Meat suppliers, Dani from 3663 and finally James from KFF our food suppliers.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the day!!

The Great Valerie Manor Bake Off!

Lucy co-ordinated a group baking session and the residents decided to make Jam Tarts. Chris the chef provided all the ingredients with Lucy and the residents adding their ‘inspiration’. The residents enjoyed the fruits of their labour with afternoon tea!

I was very lucky to be presented with my own personalised ‘A’ jam tarts, which were delicious!!!
