County Times – Care Home of the Year.

You may be aware that we have been nominated for the County Times Care Home of the Year competition and the good news is that we have made the shortlist!

Everyone at Valerie Manor is so excited especially as it is voted for by local people it would mean so much to do well.

If you would like to vote please collect a copy of the voting page on the table as you enter the restaurant or alternatively please call the Home and give us your permission to enter a vote on your behalf.

Many thanks to everyone who has voted for Valerie Manor so far……and fingers crossed!

GBCA National Awards 2020 – Judging Day.

Following our win in the South East Regional Awards (Best Palliative Care category) Debs, Lucy and I traveled to Birmingham for the judging day for the National Award.

Despite the threat of delay due to bad weather we arrived at the Birmingham International Conference Centre in good time. It was lovely to see so many other Regional Winners.

We believe it went well – especially as after our judges, who were very nice,  commented that they had actually only asked one question but we had answered all the others!

Fingers crossed for the Award evening in March but to be recognised as one of the National finalist is such an achievement in itself.

Well done to everyone.

South East Regional Palliative Care Award for the Team!

I am delighted to announce that the Valerie Manor Care team were awarded the South East Regional Award for Palliative / End of Life Care.

Staff really pride themselves in the care that they deliver and the support they offer not only to our residents but to their family and to each other as well.

We have been part of the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) since 2012 and have a Platinum status with a score of 50/50 of which we are very proud of! The Core Team and Champions help to continuously improve what we do at Valerie Manor and also support other staff who are more junior. It is not just the nurses or the care staff but the whole team including office staff, housekeeping staff and hospitality staff who want to take on further learning to support our residents and their families along with their colleagues – This is why I have chosen to nominate the whole team and not one individual.

South East Region Great British Care Awards Judging Day

This Tuesday saw some of the team attend the South East Region Great British Care Awards Judging Day at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton.

Zoe had been asked to be a judge again for the awards but obviously wasn’t allowed to judge in the categories we had been selected as finalist in.

  • Best Newcomer – Izzy – Care Assistant.
  • Best assessor and care planner – Debs – Deputy Manager.
  • Best end of life / palliative care – Team Valerie Manor represented by Jane – Registered Nurse, Lucy – Care Supervisor and Alan – Office Manager.
  • Care Innovator for his innovative services to Valerie Manor – Mike Slator, Upper Beeding Pharmacy.

The interviews were spread throughout the day but Izzy’s was the only one in the morning but her colleague Lucy offered to go with her as support.

Everyone felt that the interviews went well and it’s now fingers crossed for the Gala award night on 9th November 2019.

Huge congratulations to all of our fantastic team who continue to provide high standards of care to our residents.
