A Christmas message…..

Zoe & I would like to wish everyone a very safe & Happy Christmas.

Whilst we cannot celebrate as we would choose to this year, rest assured our amazing team who are working today and in the run up to Christmas have pulled out all the stops – as they always do.

We could not be prouder of the entire team who throughout this year have selflessly made the residents welfare and happiness their priority – many have not seen their own family members as they would normally.

We would also like to thank our wonderful, supportive and understanding relatives/friends of residents throughout the pandemic – who have trusted our decisions when guidance was changed (often at short notice) and also their kindness and appreciation of pressure the Valerie Manor team are continuing to work under.

It would be wrong also not to thank the local community including Steyning Medical Centre & Beeding Pharmacy to name just two. Without their help and guidance things may have been a lot different for our staff and residents.

There are simply no words to express how we felt about the local community by the way they reacted to our need for the visiting pod. In such difficult times for everyone so many gave their time and materials to ensure our residents and relatives can enjoy safe visits. We are extremely fortunate to be part of this community and the way in which Valerie Manor has benefitted from this –  we can assure you will not be forgotten.

We were very pleased to receive a letter from our local MP Andrew Griffith, whose words say it all “simply exemplary”.

Finally it goes without saying that we wish you all a very safe and Happy Christmas as well as a healthy & Happy New Year.

The Christmas elves (residents and staff) have been busy this week making their own decorations for the festive season.

The staff have once again come up trumps with some traditional home made decoration ideas, as you will see below.

Everyone had a fabulous time taking part and despite the restrictions currently in place are very much looking forward to Christmas!

A lovely Christmas message.

Today we had a lovely couple of pictures sent to us from two local school children Charlie and Esme who wanted to draw Christmas pictures to help the residents get into the Christmas spirit.

What a lovely thought and the pictures are now up in the conservatory for all to see and one particular resident loved them so much he now has his own copies which has made his day!

Thank you so much Charlie & Esme from everyone at Valerie Manor.

The first week with our POD open……

My word – I have not seen so many smiles for such a long time – the visitors POD really has changed the lives of our residents and relatives. It makes me incredibly emotional to hear some of the comments and read the emails that we have received in relation to people being able to have a more meaningful visit.

‘Just wanted to say that the Pod is a triumph! Everything worked perfectly – Mum could hear me clearly, and I could hear her fine. Since I had no mask, and could sit comparatively close – a normal distance, we talked much more naturally. I think a really big factor is that she was warm and comfy, so she seemed much happier and more talkative. I think it’s an amazing thing that everyone has done, and the structure itself is most impressive as well. So huge thanks to everyone, and I look forward to visiting Mum next week more than ever!’

‘Wow Zoe what a lovely experience it is in the pod. Just got back from seeing dad, it was so nice not to shout and keep repeating myself. Dad said nice to see your face. What a Credit the pod is to you and  everyone involved. Thank you, thank you so much. Can’t wait for my next pod experience.’

‘Just wanted to add my voice to the praise for the Pod. It’s really wonderful. Not having to wear a mask made a real difference – Mum could see when I was smiling at her. A wonderful achievement by all concerned. Well done! And a big thank you.’

‘I had my first visit in the pod today and it is FANTASTIC!  The audio equipment made a tremendous difference. My father was a bit doubtful about having headphones on but he soon forgot as we were able to have a conversation in a way we haven’t been able to enjoy for such a long time . Heartfelt thanks to everyone in Operation Pod – at last something good out of all this gloom and despair.’

‘Just to say, I had my first visit in the POD yesterday, all went very well, lovely to not be wearing the mask! ‘

Thank you to Jane for more artwork for the POD – stunning!
