Dame Vera Lynn

I’m sure everyone was very sad to hear of Dame Vera Lynn’s passing.

For those that had the pleasure of meeting her at the opening of the new wing back in June 2011 – she really was an inspiration to us all.

Dame Vera clearly enjoyed taking time to chat with our residents and understood the important role she played in their lives.

Our thoughts are with her family….

CQC – Emergency Support Framework Report

During the ongoing Pandemic the CQC (Care Quality Commission) – our regulator have suspended ‘routine’ inspections and published a document on 1st May 2020 on supporting the services they regulate.

We were recently contacted by our inspector and a telephone call took place to discuss our arrangements during COVID – as our routine inspection would have been due around this time.

Assessment for Valerie Manor on 10_06_2020 16_28_

You may recall that our first Pets as therapy dog was a lovely black labrador called Lola. She was such a gentle girl and one of the main reasons why Zoe & I have decided to get a puppy this summer from her owner Derrie.

Derrie & Lola visited Valerie Manor for 9 years and brightened  the lives of all of the residents she visited.

Sadly we heard from Derrie last week to say that Lola had passed away.

With Derrie’s permission i wanted to share her email with you, which I think captures Lola perfectly.

Dear Zoe and Alan,

Thank you so so much for the beautiful flowers and vase.  The vase is a perfect size and will be so useful when the flowers have gone. They really lifted me today but also brought a tear too.  Lola was a very special girl and I was only telling my neighbour about her life this morning.  Those early days at Valerie Manor when we all sat round in the front lounge eating cake and laughing.  It was a special time and laughing is a great healer and lifter of mood. The day we went to Worthing Assembly Rooms after you had nominated Lola for an award and she was cuddled by Fred Dinenage.  The opening of the new wing and she met Vera Lynn and last but not least hers and my friendship with Joan and Lola’s attendance at her funeral which lifted everyone.  Oh course the biggest thing was converting you Zoe to the wonder of dogs!

Thank you once again for your very kind thought.  I am very touched.

With love

More Goodies!

We received another 2 deliveries of goodies this week from our friends at Wilton Park and Salara.

It means so much to the residents and staff to know that the community are thinking of them.

Thank you to all concerned.
