Our gardens

A place to connect and unwind

Set in an acre of land, Valerie Manor’s gardens have fine views over the South Downs. Perfect for a lunchtime stroll, simply enjoying the sunshine, or observing the beautiful sunsets over the Downs of an evening.

Weather permitting, the grounds also play host to a series of outdoor events throughout the year, including maypole dancing in the spring and games in the garden throughout the summer. Tea parties, outdoor dining, and grandchildren playing on the grass are not an uncommon sight during the summer months!

Outside the conservatory there is level block paving built over two tiers surrounding the lawn, and with gently sloping ramps between, residents can enjoy the grounds safely either independently or assisted. Raised planters at the lower level allow residents to experience the joys and benefits of gardening activities while comfortably seated.

Discover the South Downs

The South Downs are a range of chalk hills running east to west along the southern coast of England, primarily through the county of Sussex . It is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and became England’s newest National Park in 2010. The rolling chalk hills provide stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the English Channel coast.

The South Downs stretches for about 260 square miles (670 km²) from the Itchen Valley near Winchester, Hampshire, in the west to Beachy Head, in the Eastbourne Downland Estate, East Sussex, in the east.
