John Paul Miller

John Paul Miller recently made his first visit to Valerie Manor to sing a variety of songs and play his guitar. This type of activity is a firm favourite of the residents (and staff) and is something that stimulates a lot of conversation afterwards.

John Paul started his set with a beautiful version of a song I had only heard recently, sung by Joe Brown at the George Harrison tribute concert “I’ll see you in my dreams” It wasn’t long before the staff and residents were swaying along!!

I am very pleased to confirm that John Paul is now booked regularly throughout the rest of the year.

A big thank you to John Paul from everyone at Valerie Manor.

A belated Welcome to Renée

Renée has been working with us for some time now, but I recently discovered that she hadn’t featured on our blog – sorry Renée!… and a long overdue ‘Welcome to the Team’.

“I live in Steyning, when I’m not working I enjoy horse riding and walking on the Downs. I work part time at Valerie Manor, whilst I study Nursing at the University of Brighton.”

Shoreham by Sea – Lifeboat Station Visit

At long last we have been able to commence our trips to have a tour around the new lifeboat station at Shoreham by Sea. The invitation came from a previous Valerie Manor resident’s family who are involved heavily in the Station. The weather was set fair as we left the Manor and headed down to the Station, where we were greeted by Martin, who was to be our tour guide – and what an excellent guide he was! – We were taken onto the viewing level and saw the new lifeboat “RNLB Enid Collett” up close and fired questions at Martin which he answered easily. We were then taken down to the lower level and saw the underside of the boat, where Martin explained how the boat was launched. We then headed into the changing area where we saw the different kit and then finally onto see the ‘inshore boat’.

A huge thank you is due not only to Martin for his excellent tour, and Ton & Julie for the kind invitation, but also to everyone involved in providing such a valuable service, which is 100% funded by charitable donations.

I would thoroughly recommend a trip to take a look around the station, you are sure to learn something if you do!

Welcome Janine

Janine has recently joined the Housekeeping team at Valerie Manor, and has settled in well.

In keeping with all new staff I asked her to write a bit about herself by way of an introduction…

“I have a caring nature, and I also love being creative and meeting new people. I am hard working and trust worthy, very friendly and strive to get on well with people.

I love Valerie Manor because it is a lovely place to work, everybody is really friendly, so there’s no doubt I’m going to love working here.”
